In Washington D.C Crack Cocaine is one of the main killers.Alot of people who use this drug do not know the consequence of the drug. Cocaine is a powerfully addictive stimulant drug. Cocaine is a very inconsistent drug and many people can die by using the same or lower dose as before. Cocaine deaths are often a result of cardiac arrest or seizure followed by a respiratory arrest. I think that people should use this drug should go a read about it before they continue to use this drug.

I had no idea the Cocaine was such a big killer in DC.
Is cocaine addictive?
What would you recommend to someone who wants to stop using cocaine?
The real issue is not so much teh sociall effects of the drug but the social cause of the drug, that is, certain racially motivated laws.
I agree, racially motivated laws that differentiate between cocaine and crack cocaine are a huge problem. These laws really affect miority women and mothers. But how could they be changed?
What actions are being taken by people like Mayor Fenty who has a responsibility to the people of D.C. to curb the effects of the crack epidemic? What are the opinions of the presidential candidates for that matter? Do they care enough about this problem in the black community or do they just say things about fixing sentencing laws in order to get black votes during the election and then never really do anything about the problem?
Cocaine is addictive, and those who begin using it can have great trouble quitting. It is a habit that you will lie, cheat, steal, whatever it takes, to support it.
I don't know what laws the previous posters were describing when commenting about racially motivated laws, but I don't believe a law can encourage cocaine use. When something is missing from one's life, cocaine can appear as a solution, as can drinking, stealing. It's very sad...
I think the erosion of the family unit is more responsible than anything, anyone, or any law could possibly be.
Drugs are really bad so dont use them for anything

I am also confused by the idea that the laws about crack and cocaine are racially motivated. From my point of view, it seems that crack is particularly dangerous because it is very cheap and very addictive, not because crack users are mostly black and cocaine users are mostly white. What do you think?
I think there are two sides to the issue of the motivation of crack cocaine jail sentences. The crack law is harder because 5 grams of crack leads to 5 years minimum and coke first time offenders gets a maximum of 1 year. African Americans certainly are more likely to use crack than cocaine. According to http://www.drugwarfacts.org/crack.htm 80% of trafficking in crack is by African Americans. It does affect African Americans more, but there may be other motives that aren't racial as well. I will research some more. Get back at me!
