Facts and Opinions about Gun Violence

Fact: 4,223 young people ages 0-19 were killed by gunfire- one every two hours, nearly 12 every day in the U.S. in 1997.

Opinion: Guns are bad.

Fact: 630 young people killed by guns were under the age of 15.

Opinion: Guns are dangerous for young people to have. There are lots of restrictions on gun ownership, and for good reason.

Fact: Americans own nearly 200 million guns, 65 million of which are handguns.

Opinion: It’s ridiculous that there are 2/3 as many guns in America as there are people.

I think these statistics are very informative, but one of the most disturbing thing about them is how gun violence effects African Americans in the US.
